Intención del curso en el contexto general del plan de estudios: |

Curso de nivel intermedio en el campo de la comunicación que introduce al alumno al estudio de los fenómenos comunicacionales con las perspectivas europea, norteamericana y latinoamericana, que analizan los medios en la vida cotidiana, los nuevos medios y las nuevas formas de usar los medios, así como las formas de comunicación alternativas a lo masivo. Requiere conocimientos previos en las áreas de sociología y comunicación de masas. Como resultado de aprendizaje, elaborará un ensayo final en el que demuestre que es capaz de analizar un fenómeno cultural de actualidad, basándose en una o varias de las teorías revisadas durante el curso. |

Objetivo general de la Unidad de Formación: |

Al finalizar este curso, el alumno será capaz de comprender las propuestas teórico-metodológicas de los estudios culturales europeos, norteamericanos y latinoamericanos relacionados con el estudio de los medios masivos y los fenómenos sociales como procesos comunicativos para comprender los conceptos de cultura, hegemonía, ideología y economía cultural, y las aplicaciones de éstos en el análisis de fenómenos culturales mediáticos. |

Course intention within the general study plan context: |
|||||
Intermediate communications course that introduces students to the study of communication phenomena from European, North American and Latin American perspectives; the analysis of media in daily life, new media and new ways of using media; and forms of communication other than mass communication. This course requires prior knowledge of sociology and mass communication. As a learning outcome students will write a final essay in which they will demonstrate that they are capable of analyzing a current cultural phenomenon, based on one or several of the theories studied during the course. |

Course objective: |

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to comprehend the theoretical-methodological proposals of European, North American, and Latin American cultural studies related to the study of mass media and social phenomena as communicative processes, in order to understand the concepts of culture, hegemony, ideology, and cultural economy as well as the applications of said concepts in the analysis of cultural phenomena in the media. |
