Course intention within the general study plan context:

This is an intermediate course, which is intended to promote an entrepreneurial mindset and venture creation with social emphasis, enabling the student to identify social & economical needs at a national/state/local level, those being the most urgent in order to foster development, so the student is moved to develop community citizenship based on the understanding of the social problems addressed, considering himself as an active agent of change. This course does not require previous knowledge, although basic business management knowledge is desirable. As a learning outcome the student is expected to know current social issues, so he can understand his role as an agent of change, to generate innovative business ideas to address specific needs. The student must generate and evaluate a viable social business proposal, and be capable to differentiate clearly an enterprise that operates under the traditional economic approach (focus on economic value) from an enterprise oriented to the low-income sector that generates economic results (focus on social sustainable impact). This analysis will deliver a document containing a feasibility plan.

Course objective:

At the end of the course the student will be capable of focusing his entrepreneurial initiative in order to create innovative ventures of high social impact, based on feasible business models that allow revenue generation and resource attraction and contribute to provide better opportunities to the low-income sector of the population.
