Course intention within the general study plan context:

It is a basic level exploratory course where the student will be able to learn about the functional mechanisms and processes that biological systems implement in nature, identifying in these those strategies that allow innovation and technological development with a focus on sustainability. The fundamental principles of science, mathematics, physics, chemistry and/or biology will be essential to understand and develop theoretical models that allow them to explain the behavior and functioning of chemical and biological systems.

As a result of learning, students will demonstrate that they understand the principles of sustainability in solving problems being able to identify the dimensions of sustainable development, as well as the indicators and principles of sustainability.

Course objective:

At the end of the unit the student:

- Solves problems and questions of reality, based on objective, valid, and reliable methodologies.

- Generates communicative discourses using diverse codes (visual, sonorous, architectural, spatial, graphic, etc.) that take into account geopolitical and socio-cultural contexts.

- Uses digital technologies, through conscious strategies that generate value in the various spaces of professional and personal participation in the networked society.

- Explains the functioning of chemical and biological systems by means of structured and coherent arguments based on concepts, theories, and principles of natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science.

- Applies the principles of sustainability in the solution of bioengineering problems and chemical processes that guarantee the well-being of future generations.
