Intención del curso en el contexto general del plan de estudios: |

Es un curso de nivel avanzado, que tiene la intención de que el estudiante de Ciencias Clínicas conozca las principales patologías que afectan al sistema musculoesquelético y los conceptos básicos de la rehabilitación de dichas lesiones; aprenda las bases de una buena historia clínica y examen físico; solicite e interprete en forma adecuada los estudios de imagen y paraclínicos que lo llevarán a integrar un diagnóstico preciso e instituir el tratamiento apropiado. Requiere conocimientos básicos de Anatomía, Fisiología y Propedéutica, lo cual facilitará la valoración y manejo de las principales enfermedades que afectan al sistema musculoesquelético, así como la rehabilitación integral del paciente. Como resultado del aprendizaje se espera que el alumno se familiarice con las principales patologías que afectan al sistema musculoesquelético, realice una historia clínica y examen físico, solicite los estudios de imagen y paraclínicos apropiados, integre un diagnóstico e instituya el tratamiento inicial de las principales patologías del sistema musculoesquelético, incluyendo su rehabilitación. |

Objetivo general de la Unidad de Formación: |

| Al finalizar el curso el alumno será capaz de evaluar, diagnostica, tratar y guiar en la rehabilitación del paciente con problemas del sistema músculo esquelético. Elaborar la historia clínica y examen físico que permitan reconocer patologías ortopédicas y traumatológicas más comunes que afectan dicho sistema, solicitar los estudios de imagen y gabinete apropiados para integrar un diagnóstico preciso e instituir el tratamiento de primer nivel de atención. Reconocer aquellos casos que requieren de una atención urgente o que ameriten la intervención de un especialista, para poder remitirlo a la brevedad posible y así disminuir el riesgo de complicaciones. Conocer los aspectos básicos del tratamiento conservador y quirúrgico, así como los relacionados con la rehabilitación integral del paciente con patología del Sistema Músculo-Esquelético; valorar la repercusión en la sociedad de la problemática de las patologías del sistema músculo esquelético y las secuelas de morbi mortalidad en el paciente con los costos que ello implica; identificar las áreas de riesgo y las posibles medidas de prevención al respecto; establecer la importancia de las acciones multidisciplinarias con este propósito de las instituciones involucradas. Iniciar la rehabilitación de primer contacto, así como para la oportuna referencia a un segundo nivel de atención en dicha área, conociendo los objetivos a corto, mediano y largo plazo del proceso de rehabilitación del paciente. Iniciar la rehabilitación intrahospitalaria, así como la planeación para el seguimiento posterior al egreso hospitalario; conocer los objetivos a corto, mediano y largo plazo del proceso de rehabilitación del paciente; entender y valorar las normas legales, éticas y morales propias de la actividad médica en el área de la traumatología y la rehabilitación. | |||||

Course intention within the general study plan context: |
|||||
|
This is an advanced course, intended to teach Clinical Science students to identify the main diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system and familiarize themselves with the basic rehabilitation concepts for these injuries; learn the foundations for a good clinical history and physical examination; request and interpret image and paraclinical studies correctly, leading them to compile an accurate diagnosis and institute appropriate treatment. The course requires basic knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Introduction to Psychology, which will facilitate both the assessment and management of the main diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system and comprehensive patient rehabilitation. As a result of learning, students are expected to familiarize themselves with the main diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, be able to perform a medical history review and physical examination, order the appropriate image and laboratory studies, make a diagnosis and institute initial treatment of the main diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including rehabilitation. |

Course objective: |
|||||
| Upon completion of this course, students will be able to assess, diagnose, treat and guide the rehabilitation of patients with problems of the musculoskeletal system; perform the clinical history review and physical examination that lead to recognition of the most common orthopedic and traumatological diseases affecting the system, request the appropriate imaging and laboratory studies to make an accurate diagnosis and institute primary-care treatment. Students should also be able to recognize those cases that require urgent attention or warrant the intervention of a specialist in order to refer the patient as soon as possible and reduce the risk of complications. Students should also understand the basic aspects of conservative and surgical treatment, as well as those aspects related to the integral rehabilitation of patients with musculoskeletal pathology; appreciate the impact of problems of the musculoskeletal system on society and the consequences of morbidity and mortality in patients as well as the costs involved; identify risk areas and possible preventive measures in this regard, establish the importance of related multidisciplinary actions and the institutions involved. The student should also acquire the skills and abilities required to rehabilitate individuals, in an interdisciplinary context with a multifactorial approach to the problem of the patient, acquire the abilities and skills required for primary care rehabilitation, as well as timely referral to a second level of care, knowing the short, medium and long term objectives of the rehabilitation process in the patient, initiate the intrahospital rehabilitation process and plan the follow-up after hospital discharge; understand and value the legal, ethical and moral regulations that apply to medical activity in the area of orthopedics and rehabilitation. | |||||
