Intención del curso en el contexto general del plan de estudios:  

Objetivo general de la Unidad de Formación:  
Introducir al estudiante a la situación y al potencial del cultivo de hortalizas en México. Familiarizarse con los tipos de hortalizas con base en su clasificación taxonómica, de clima, requerimientos de suelo y parte comestible. Describir los ciclos fisiológicos de desarrollo de las hortalizas más importantes. Estudiar los principios básicos de producción: métodos de preparación del suelo; métodos de siembra; fertilización; riegos; control de maleza; plagas y enfermedades de las principales hortalizas de clima cálido y templado; todo lo anterior con la finalidad de lograr la integración de empresas productoras de hortalizas competitivas.

Course objective:  
Introduction to the conditions and benefits of vegetable production in Mexico. Familiarization with types of garden produce according to their taxonomical classification, climate, soil requirements and edible parts. Description of the physiological cycles and development of important vegetable gardens. Study of basic principles of production: methods for soil preparation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, weed control, plagues and diseases of common vegetable gardens in hot and moderate climates in order to develop competitive vegetable garden industries.
